When my head hits the pillow I imagine I'm in my own studio, thinking fabric into existence. Fabric flies through the room and arranges itself into the millions of silhouettes! When I wake up in the morning, I still have all of the designs I've created in my head. I get all of my markers and throw them all out on the floor. I let my rainbow connection, as a queer person, guide me as I draw the designs I was thinking of the night before. When it's time to shop for materials, I often don't find the right fabric print to match my designs. So, I customize my own print designs by painting, printing, dyeing, or drawing the fabric I buy. I've also explored other forms of customization through laser-cutting, tufting, and quilting techniques. I have so much fun exploring and being curious during the design process. The friendship I've developed with my inner-child has greatly influenced my style as a designer. I walk past the children's section in a store and I don't understand why the vibrant clothes don't come in my size. Through loving and accepting my inner-child, I've come to the realization that life is too dang short to wear boring clothes! I want to wear clothes that I can have fun in and bring me joy!
Hi! I'm Sasha!
Since my mom taught me to sew when I was 8, I knew I had discovered one of my favorite creative outlets. When I began to experience depression during high school, my therapist advised that I pick up a hobby. That's when I decided to start designing and sewing clothes. Creating and sewing was a form of meditation for me. I felt like I was using magic, and watching my designs come to life gave me confidence. My senior year of high school I created a portfolio to apply for a BFA at FIT in New York. Even though I got waitlisted, I experienced the full design process for the first time and loved it. I was then accepted at the University of North Texas as a Pre-Fashion Design Major. After my Design and Drawing fundamental classes, I entered the college level Intro to Sewing Class and Patternmaking 1. I then realized how challenging my college journey was going to be. I accepted this challenge. I realized a new reason why I love Fashion: it is constantly in action, constantly changing, and constantly pushing the boundaries of what we think is possible... (anything is possible!!).
